The air is crisp and pumpkin spice is everywhere. It must be fall. In accordance with the change of the seasons the St. John’s Rowing Club is pleased to offer some small changes to the program offerings. High School rowing for the fall season has begun. In addition, the fall-only sections of Senior Competitive and Senior/Masters Non-Competitive have also started.
High School rowing is just that, a program offered where anyone from highschool with any level of experience can come down and row and have a good time. Further, a fall-only section has been added to the Senior Competitive team. This section will see that athletes who with to compete can participate from now until the end of the rowing season! More interesting, an entirely new program has been added to the roster. The Senior/Masters Non-Competitive program. This program will allow any rower with previous experience and strong technical ability to row on the lake for fun or fitness. Rowers may participate as often or as little as they want. The Adult Recreation program offers a program where adults of little to no experience can learn to row, have fun, and get some exercise. Check out the programs page for more information.

Over the past weekend the RCA Canadian Masters Championships were hosted in Burnaby, BC. One of our own rowers, Eric Hanna-Quinn, ended up third to receive a bronze medal in Mens 1x. He began in the second heat of the Mens 1x AA-A category where he finished second out of six rowers. In the heat he barely edged out ahead of third place by only 0.08 seconds. He finished with a time of 3:39.30.
Achieving a top 2 finish in the heat earned Eric his place in the finals. Less than 5 hours since the heat race Eric once again lined up at the start for the finals race. In the end he finished third with a time of 3:41.66, earning himself a bronze medal from RCA.

Ten rowers from the St. John’s Rowing Club have been recognized for their hard work and achievements in the sport of rowing by each receiving the Premier’s Athletic Award. In addition, Charlie Price has also received the Sport NL Scholarship.
The year of 2013 was a busy one for these amateur athletes with four regattas, The Canada Summer Games, and a training camp coached by two-time Olympic medalist Laryssa Biesenthal. They represented their community and province well through their participation in two Atlantic events and three national events.
The St.John’s Rowing Club wishes to congratulate all of the award winners for their skill, hard work, and perseverance which have lead them to grow into the great athletes they are today.
