Youth Development

Youth Development is a non-competitive program offering youth aged 12 to 17 a chance to develop a solid foundation of skills in the sport of slide seat rowing. In addition to rowing technique, we will cover coxing technique; boat safety; and concepts of physical well-being, including hydration, muscular strength, flexibility and diet. The goal of Youth Development is to provide rowers with intermediate skills and knowledge in a fun, engaging, team-oriented environment. These skills can then be used to transition to a competitive rowing stream.

This program is ideal for those who have participated in at least one season of Learn to Row or Fixed Seat rowing. However, previous rowing experience is not required.

In 2019, Youth Development will have three practices per week throughout the rowing season. This makes it a good choice for novices who do not wish to make the time commitment required for Youth Learn to Row. Youth who complete the Learn to Row program during the summer may join Youth Development in the fall. Joining the Youth Development program in the fall will require a separate program registration later in the season ($150).

Please note that the children should be very comfortable around water to participate; a swim test is required of all participants.

  1. Please register online at Rowing Canada. Make sure to register your child’s name and birth date online, not your own!
  2. Fee (full season): $450 (includes RNL and RCA dues)
  3. Fees should be paid by e-transfer prior to your first practice.
  4. Note: a registration cap will be applied to this program (24 participants).

Detailed instructions on how to register and pay by e-transfer are available here, or check the Membership page for more information.
