Junior Competitive

The Junior Competitive program is for advanced youth rowers aged 15-18 years old. It offers 5-7 practices per week, plus 2-3 strength and conditioning sessions, and supplementary erg training.

The Junior Competitive program is designed to introduce U17 and U19 athletes to high-performance training and prepare them for events such as the Canada Games, University Rowing, National/International Regattas, and even NextGen programs. Junior Competitive athletes can expect to do sport-specific training and refine their rowing skills while competing at a high level. This program follows “Learn to Compete” and “Train to Compete” long-term athlete development, and athletes will therefore be expected to compete in 2000 m racing, head races, ergometer testing, and race simulations within training (e.g., seat racing).

This season, a race schedule is set for the Junior Competitive rowers to travel to competitive regattas prior to and including the 2022 Canada Games in St. Catharines, Ontario.

Only athletes approved by the provincial coaches may participate in the Jr. Competitive program. Both on-water and ergometer criteria are used by the coaching staff to determine a rower’s ability and to assist in boat and crew selection. For more information about joining this program, please email the provincial team coaching staff at [email protected]
